Julie is a colon cancer survivor, diagnosed initially in 2001 at 45 years of age, then again with liver secondaries in 2005 and 2006.
She has been a member of the AGITG Consumer Advisory Panel since 2013, bringing her 'survivor' and trial participant insights as well as clinical trials experience from working as a clinical trial coordinator at the time she was first diagnosed.
Julie is the Chair of Cancer Voices South Australia (SA) and an active consumer representative on a number of state and national committees and advisory groups including the SA Statewide Cancer Clinical Network, CareSearch Palliative Care Knowledge Network, PoCoG/ PC4 Clinical Trials - Joint Community Advisory Group and Australian Institute of Health and Welfare Cancer Data Monitoring Advisory Committee.
Julie works hard to represent, respond and respect the diversity of views of 'people affected by cancer', as well as assisting others to participate and use their own cancer experiences in a variety of ways. Amongst other things, she coordinates Cancer Voices series of ~15 'survivors as teachers' tutorials/year with medical students (ongoing since 2012), and survivor-led cycling and walking groups (every week since 2009).
